Lt. Col. Thammanat Prompao, MP for Phayao, Palang Pracharath Party, former secretary-general of Palang Pracharath Party, spoke about the case where Pheu Thai Party withdrew the draft amendment of the constitution on the issue of politicians’ ethics, leaving only the Prachachon Party, saying that the amendment of the constitution, whether in the section on ethics or any other section, must listen to the majority of members’ opinions on which direction to go. It must depend on the majority, especially in the coalition parties, on which direction to go. The position of the MPs in his group is to follow Pheu Thai Party, not other parties. At this time, as Pheu Thai Party is the core of the government in forming the government, therefore, in considering any matter, we must listen to Pheu Thai Party.
When asked how he viewed the et
hical issues that were past behaviors and should be amended, Lt. Col. Thammanat said that he did not want to talk about this issue because if he did, people would think he was talking about himself. However, any amendments and constitutions that benefit the people should be done, not for any one person like some parties are doing.
As for whether this issue should be amended for the sake of order in the government or the people or for anyone, Lt. Col. Thammanat said that anything that can be amended to make the country better should be amended. Do not use other reasons or cite other issues as issues. He did not want Thai society, especially the society of politicians, to become a society that must follow trends or anything that is not true.
