Lucky couple finds a Melo pearl in a clam

A lucky couple found a Melo pearl in a clam. After testing, it was found to be a real pearl weighing 1.91 carats, and is expected to be worth more than half a million baht.

Mr. Adisak, 29 years old, and Ms. Sawitree, 27 years old, a couple in Nonthaburi Province, brought the Melo pearl for the news team to see. They said that at the beginning of the month, they went to buy food at the Wat Seniwong market in Sai Noi District and bought 2 kilograms of cockles, which they usually buy to eat. When they got home, they boiled the cockles and ate them as usual until they reached the last one. When they ate it, it felt hard like a rock, so they spat it out and saw that it was a round lump. At first, they were going to throw it away, but they felt suspicious, so they searched for information on YouTube. It turned out that it looked like a Melo pearl. They asked their boyfriend, but he wasn’t sure either. When they asked their friends, no one could give them an answer.

After about a week, the pearl was taken to a re
liable institute in Silom that specialized in this type of testing. The cost of the test was about 1,700 baht. The test results stated that it was genuine, with a clear guarantee. This pearl was oval-shaped, white, and weighed 1.91 carats. From what I’ve investigated, the price should be about 500,000 baht. It was considered very lucky to find a Melo pearl in a cockle.
