Lynk and bmobile Launch Satellite-to-Phone Service in the Solomon Islands

Falls Church, Va. – Lynk Global, Inc. (Lynk), a leading sat2phone telecoms provider, in partnership with bmobile Solomon Islands Limited (bmobile), has initiated the first satellite direct-to-mobile phone services for subscribers in the Solomon Islands. This service utilizes Lynk’s innovative “cell-towers-in-space” technology, marking bmobile as the latest mobile network operator (MNO) globally to deploy Lynk’s sat2phone technology.

According to Antara News Agency, established in 2010, is a prominent provider of high-speed data, voice, and SMS telecommunications across the Solomon Islands, operating in four provinces: Guadalcanal, Malaita, Western, and Central Province. The launch of Lynk’s technology is aimed at expanding mobile coverage across the Solomon Islands, starting with immediate coverage for subscribers in Makira.

Devan Kula, CEO of bmobile, expressed enthusiasm about the partnership, emphasizing the potential of Lynk’s service to extend mobile reach and provide vital connectivity, especially in remote areas. The rollout of Lynk’s service is set to begin as a beta service in Makira and expand across the Solomon Islands, including remote areas and the maritime economic exclusion zone, which spans over 1.6 million kilometers.

Dan Dooley, Lynk’s chief commercial officer, highlighted the significance of this service for the Solomon Islands, where over 75% of residents live outside urban areas. The service is anticipated to support residents and visitors, offering connectivity solutions, especially in times of natural disasters when ground networks might be compromised.

Lynk, which has proven its technology with successful SMS, broadcast emergency alerts, and voice calls on all seven continents, plans to expand its commercial service with additional MNOs globally throughout 2023. The company also aims to launch services in Papua New Guinea in partnership with bmobile’s parent company, Telikom Ltd.

Lynk stands as the only operational satellite-direct-to-standard-mobile-phone system globally and is poised to revolutionize connectivity with its satellite technology, providing a pathway to economic prosperity for billions.
