Malls, markets to operate until 8 p.m. local time: Minister

Jakarta (ANTARA) – Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto announced that operating hours of shopping centers, including malls, markets, and other trade centers, should not cross 8 p.m. local time, from June 22 to July 5, 2021.

This provision was one of the policy adjustments issued to bolster micro-scale public activities restriction (Micro PPKM) in a bid to reduce the COVID-19 transmission rate.

“Operating hours of shopping centers, malls or markets, and trade centers are up to 8 p.m. local time, and visitors are restricted to 25 percent of their maximum capacity,” Hartarto stated during an online press conference here on Monday.

Hartarto, concurrently the COVID-19 Handling and National Economic Recovery Committee (KPC-PEN) chief, outlined that the regulatory revision also included public activities at restaurants, food stalls, cafes, street vendors, and booths, either personally built or at shopping centers.

The revision lays down the visitor cap at restaurants, food stalls, and cafes to at most 25 percent of the total capacity. Furthermore, culinary business managers can only service takeaway foods or drinks to buyers’ homes in accordance with the operating hours and no later than 8 p.m. local time.

“Dine-in is restricted to 25 percent of the total capacity. The rest are takeaway and delivery services according to the restaurant’s operating hours to maximum 8 p.m. local time,” he noted.

Hartarto noted that the revised provision on Micro PPKM will also affect activities at offices, industries, schools, religious venues, and tourist attractions. In detail, the strengthening of Micro PPKM will be regulated in the Home Affairs Minister’s Instruction.

“Regarding the Micro PPKM tightening and strengthening, the president has directed to change the provision that will be imposed starting tomorrow, from June 22 to July 2, or two weeks ahead. Micro PPKM strengthening will also be stipulated in the Home Affairs Minister’s instruction,” he stated.
