Man Arrested with 200,000 Methamphetamine Pills After Fleeing Checkpoint

Tha li: Rangers from the 21st Special Forces Ranger Company arrested a 25-year-old man who attempted to transport 200,000 methamphetamine pills through a checkpoint in Loei Province. The individual, identified as Mr. Thawatchai, confessed to being hired by a capitalist group to deliver the illegal substances.

According to Thai News Agency, the incident occurred around 2:00 a.m. in Ban Ahee, Tambon Ahee, Amphoe Tha Li. Officers had received prior notification about a potential drug delivery in the area and had established a checkpoint in response. Upon noticing suspicious behavior from a red and white motorcycle attempting to evade the checkpoint, rangers initiated a pursuit along Ban Ahee-Ahee road.

Despite coordinated efforts to intercept the suspect, including assistance from a nearby gas station checkpoint, Mr. Thawatchai managed to bypass the barriers. However, his escape was thwarted when his motorcycle overturned in the area of Ban Chonlaprathan, Tambon Tha Li, leading to his arrest.

An inspection of
the suspect’s belongings revealed a rainbow sack containing 36 packages of methamphetamine pills, amounting to approximately 218,000 pills, concealed in wax paper and plastic wrapping. Mr. Thawatchai admitted to transporting the drugs for a group of investors and was subsequently taken to Tha Li Police Station.

Mr. Thawatchai faces charges of possession of Category 1 narcotics for sale, use of methamphetamine in violation of the law, and operating a vehicle under the influence of drugs. The investigation into the broader network involved in the trafficking operation continues.
