MEA awards MEA ENERGY AWARDS for energy-saving buildings

The Metropolitan Electricity Authority presented the MEA ENERGY AWARDS symbol for the 7th year. There were 125 buildings that passed the energy-efficient building standards, saving more than 38 million baht in electricity costs per year and reducing carbon dioxide emissions by up to 4,117 tons.

Mr. Pipat Chonlapai, Deputy Governor of MEA or the Metropolitan Electricity Authority, presided over the award ceremony and presented the MEA ENERGY AWARDS symbol for the 7th year and summarized the results of the project to promote the improvement of energy efficiency in buildings, along with providing investment funds to change high-efficiency equipment to 50 buildings to reduce energy consumption, totaling more than 12 million baht.

The project to promote energy efficiency improvement in buildings has been organized for the 7th year in collaboration with King Mongkut’s University of Technology Thonburi (KMUTT) as a consultant to create new standard assessment criteria, developed to be in line with current technol
ogy under the concept of “Efficient energy use and standard air quality”. There are 194 buildings applying to join the project, 125 of which passed the MEA ENERGY AWARDS standard, of which 50 buildings received funding, resulting in equipment improvements, resulting in a reduction of electricity consumption by 8.24 million units per year, equivalent to electricity costs saved by more than 38 million baht per year, and reducing carbon dioxide emissions by 4,117 tons per year.

This year, 9 types of buildings were assessed: universities, schools, hotels, hospitals, convenience stores, hypermarkets, shopping malls, office buildings, and coffee shops. Energy efficiency standards (MEA Index) and indoor air quality (IAQ) were used, while buildings that received the MEA ENERGY AWARDS were honored as models of good energy-saving buildings in the country. This year, MEA also presented the MEA ENERGY AWARDS PREMIUM level to buildings that had passed the STANDARD level, with 3 additional considerations: executive partic
ipation and care, sustainability of energy conservation, and the environment, and improvements in energy use and savings.

The highest award is PLATINUM level 7 places including CW Building, The Thara Tower, Health Learning Center, Vimut Hospital, Chest Institute, MBK Center and Avani Ratchada Bangkok Hotel and GOLD level 12 places including Huachiew Chalermprakiet University, Chanprathit Ram Wittayakom School, Rajavithi Hospital, Queen Sirikit National Institute of Child Health, etc.

For buildings interested in applying for the MEA ENERGY AWARDS assessment, inquiries can be made through all online channels of the Metropolitan Electricity Authority. The event will be held annually to jointly create more buildings with the MEA ENERGY AWARDS symbol
