Bangkok: MEA warns that electrical appliances purchased must have the “TIS” mark for safety. The Metropolitan Electricity Authority (MEA) would like to remind the public to be mindful of safety when purchasing electrical appliances. They should ensure that the Thai Industrial Standards Institute (TIS) mark is clearly displayed on the product or packaging, and that the product itself is in good condition and free of any damage. This is to prevent the danger of electrical leaks, electric shock, or fires within the home.
According to Thai News Agency, the TIS mark is a certification from the Thai Industrial Standards Institute (TISI) that a product has passed quality and safety inspections according to international standards. Effective from January 21, 2021, certified products must display a QR code alongside the TIS mark so that consumers can easily verify the information.
Examples of TIS standards for main electrical appliances include the Electric fan TIS 934-2533, Electric rice cooker TIS 1039-2004, Electric iron TIS 366-2004, Refrigerator TIS. TIS.2186-2004 or TIS.2214-2005, and Washing machine TIS 1463-2013.
