Kamphaeng Phet: Victims have lodged a complaint against a spirit medium in Kamphaeng Phet, alleging that they were duped into believing they were possessed and subsequently sexually assaulted under the guise of a holy water ritual.
According to Thai News Agency, the case came to light after a message appeared on the “Kamphaeng Phet, Complain About Anything, Tell Here” page. An older woman claimed she was sexually abused by a spirit medium who convinced her that she was under a Khmer spell. The medium allegedly used this narrative to coerce her into a holy water bath in a private setting, which led to sexual assault. The victim reported that she was not alone in her suffering, as other victims were similarly deceived. Fear of family repercussions initially kept her silent, but continued harassment from the medium compelled her to come forward.
Sergeant Prajakrit Saithip, the page administrator, assisted two victims, aged 38 and 27, in filing a complaint with the Kamphaeng Phet City Police Station. Both victi
ms recounted similar experiences involving a temple owner who posed as a spirit medium. They were convinced they were under a spell and needed a holy water bath to lift it. The 38-year-old woman was coerced into performing the ceremony twice and was sexually assaulted in a temple bathroom on September 12, 2014. The younger victim avoided disrobing and was instead given holy water to use at home.
When contacted by a reporter, the spirit medium declined to comment, promising to respond later before abruptly hanging up. Meanwhile, police at the Kamphaeng Phet City Police Station have begun collecting evidence and have issued a summons for the medium to face legal proceedings. Both victims were sent to Kamphaeng Phet Hospital for medical examinations, with results to be included in the case file against the spirit medium.
