Mentally Ill Son Murders Mother and Hides Body in Bathroom

Bangkok: A 33-year-old man suffering from mental illness has confessed to killing his 73-year-old mother and hiding her body in their bathroom. The tragic incident came to light when the son, identified as Mr. Boy, turned himself in at the Rom Klao Police Station, admitting to the crime and stating that stress led him to commit the act.

According to Thai News Agency, police were alerted by Mr. Boy, who reported the murder and the concealment of his mother’s body. Officers from the Rom Klao Police Station responded to the residence located in Soi Kheha Rom Klao 27, where they discovered the body of Ms. Woranan in the bathroom. Her body was found in a bathtub, covered with clothing and cement powder, suggesting that she had been deceased for at least three days.

Villagers in the area mentioned that Ms. Woranan, a former lottery ticket seller, had been living with her son for three years after ceasing her business due to being cheated. She survived on a monthly income from elderly benefits. The neighbors reported having never witnessed any conflicts between the mother and son, although they were aware of the son’s mental health issues. Despite this, he had never shown any signs of violence before.

Police Lieutenant Sukhum Phuttaramrin shared that Mr. Boy walked into the police station to report the crime, initially leading officers to believe it was a prank. However, after coordinating with patrol officers, they discovered the suspicious condition of the bathroom water tank, which contained cement-like material covering the body. Upon further investigation by rescue workers, the body was recovered.

Pol. Maj. Gen. Kiattikul Sonthine of the Metropolitan Police Division 3 stated that Mr. Boy was taken into custody following his confession. Initial investigations suggest that stress due to his dependency on his mother for basic needs may have been a trigger. Mr. Boy admitted to strangling his mother, subsequently concealing her body in water, covering it with clothes, and using cement powder to mask the odor. The investigation is ongoing.

Further inquiries revealed that Mr. Boy has no history of drug abuse or violence, although his mental illness is documented. He remains under police custody, and a physical examination will be conducted to ascertain his mental health condition, with subsequent legal actions to follow.
