Bangkok: The Meteorological Department has issued an alert regarding increased rain and the potential for heavy rainfall in various regions of Thailand, urging residents to be cautious of flash floods and landslides. The warning specifically covers areas in the North, Northeast, East, and the West Coast of the South.
According to Thai News Agency, the department has emphasized the danger posed by heavy and accumulated rain, which could result in flash floods and mudslides, especially in hillside regions near waterways and low-lying areas. This weather pattern is attributed to the monsoon trough passing over northern Laos and northern Vietnam, alongside the strengthening southwest monsoon over the Andaman Sea, Thailand, and the Gulf of Thailand.
The sea conditions are also expected to deteriorate, with waves in the Andaman Sea and the Gulf of Thailand becoming increasingly stronger. The upper Andaman Sea is anticipated to experience waves reaching about 2 meters in height, with even higher waves in areas experiencing thunderstorms. Similarly, the lower Andaman Sea and the upper Gulf of Thailand will see waves ranging from 1 to 2 meters, with the potential for higher waves during thunderstorms. Mariners in these regions are advised to exercise caution and avoid areas with thunderstorms.
Additionally, Typhoon “Podul” in the Pacific Ocean is projected to move past Taiwan and make landfall in eastern China between August 13 and 14. The department has assured that the typhoon will not affect Thailand directly.
