Meteorological Department Reports Cooling Weather in Thailand and Debunks Weather Rumor

Bangkok: The Meteorological Department of Thailand has announced a shift in weather patterns expected between October 23 and 29, 2024, with cooler temperatures anticipated in the upper regions and continuous rainfall in the south. Additionally, the department addressed and debunked rumors regarding the ‘Low Pressure Area Number 94w.’

According to Thai News Agency, the cooling trend is due to a high pressure area or cold air mass from China that recently moved over Laos, influencing the weather conditions in Thailand. Initially, this caused rain in the upper parts of Thailand, but it is expected to decrease after October 22, leading to cooler weather, particularly in mountainous areas. However, some rain might continue in the lower central and eastern regions of Thailand.

The department has also clarified misinformation circulating about a strong low pressure cell numbered 94w in the eastern part of the Philippines. This rumor suggested that the pressure area might intensify into a tropical cyclone, potentia
lly impacting Thailand. The Meteorological Department confirmed that this information did not originate from their official communications and warned against the spread of unverified news.

In light of recent events, the Meteorological Department has issued a stern warning against the dissemination of false meteorological information, particularly on social media platforms. The department emphasized that such actions could lead to legal consequences under the Computer Crime Act (No. 2) B.E. 2560, with penalties including imprisonment of up to five years and fines not exceeding 100,000 baht. This measure aims to prevent panic and social unrest caused by misinformation.
