Meteorological Department warns of heavy rain in some areas of the North – 60% chance of thunderstorms in Bangkok


The Meteorological Department has announced that Thailand will experience thunderstorms and heavy rain in some areas, with very heavy rain in some areas in the northern region. People in the aforementioned areas should be careful of the dangers of heavy to very heavy rain. As for Bangkok and its vicinity, there will be a 60% chance of thunderstorms.

The Meteorological Department revealed that the monsoon trough is passing through the upper part of the North and the upper part of the Northeast, entering the low-pressure cell in the upper part of Vietnam and the Gulf of Tonkin, along with the moderate southwest monsoon blowing over the Andaman Sea, Thailand and the upper part of the Gulf of Thailand, while there is a strong low-pressure cell covering the upper part of Myanmar. This condition will cause thunderstorms and heavy rain in some areas of Thailand, with very heavy rain in some areas of the North. People in the aforementioned areas should be careful of the dangers of heavy to very heavy rain and accum
ulated rain, which may cause flash floods and forest runoff, especially in areas on slopes near waterways and lowlands.

For waves in the Andaman Sea and the upper Gulf of Thailand, they are moderate with waves 1-2 meters high. In areas with thunderstorms, waves are higher than 2 meters. Sailors in the aforementioned areas are advised to sail with caution and avoid sailing in areas with thunderstorms.

In addition, during 14-16 September 2024, the monsoon trough will move down to cover the North, upper Central and Northeastern regions, while the moderate southwest monsoon blowing over the upper Andaman Sea, Thailand and the upper Gulf of Thailand will begin to strengthen. This will cause Thailand to have more rain and some areas will have heavy to very heavy rain. The waves in the Andaman Sea and the Gulf of Thailand will be stronger. In the Andaman Sea, the waves will be 2-3 meters high, and in areas with thunderstorms, the waves will be higher than 3 meters. In the upper Gulf of Thailand, the sea will have
waves approximately 2 meters high, and in areas with thunderstorms, the waves will be higher than 2 meters.

Bangkok and its vicinity will have thunderstorms in 60 percent of the area. Minimum temperature 27-28 degrees Celsius. Maximum temperature 34-35 degrees Celsius.
