Transportation Minister Budi Karya Sumadi and Bali Governor I Wayan Koster on Friday reviewed the readiness of I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport for the G20 Summit in Bali on November 15–16, 2022.
The G20 is an international forum comprising 19 countries and the European Union that work together to handle major issues. Indonesia is holding the presidency of the grouping this year.
During the review, Minister Sumadi and Governor Koster reviewed the construction of the VVIP Building at I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport.
The VVIP Building will serve as a facility for transit and for welcoming heads of state and governments of G20 countries upon their arrival in Bali.
“Within 3.5 months, the building that has become a new pride for Bali is now almost finished. As the first meeting point, we must present a place that is so elegant, so neat, so that this is the impression of Bali as Indonesia’s pride,” Sumadi said in his statement.
The construction progress has so far reached 99 percent, and the building is expected to be completed in the near future so that it can be used to receive guests with excellent readiness, the minister added.
Meanwhile, Governor Koster expressed his appreciation for the construction of the VVIP Building at I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport.
The construction of the VVIP Building is part of the infrastructure revitalization project at the airport to support the implementation of the G20 Summit in Bali.
The revitalization project also includes the existing VIP Building, the international terminal, and the general aviation terminal (GAT), as well as the construction of solar power plants (PLTS) at three points with a capacity of 155-kilowatt peak (kWp).
President director of state-owned airport operator PT Angkasa Pura (AP) I, Faik Fahmi, who assisted Minister Sumadi and Governor Koster during the review, also provided updates on the airport’s infrastructure revitalization.
As of early October, the revitalization of I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport has mostly reached the finishing stage.
He affirmed that the revitalization is a form of AP I’s commitment to supporting the government’s agenda of making the G20 Summit a success.
