Minister of Industry, Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita, has said that his ministry has been pushing a number of programs to realize Indonesia’s target of becoming a carbon-neutral country by 2060.
“In fact, we have a program, called green mobility, one of which is electric cars. So, electric cars are only part of our big concept,” he informed at the ‘Cut the Tosh Collaboration Summit’ in Jakarta on Tuesday.
He said his ministry has directed factories to use green energy-based components, including for transportation and logistics.
In addition, as part of efforts to accelerate the energy transition, the Ministry of Industry has tasked the Standardization and Industrial Services Policy Agency (BSKJI) with overseeing the manufacturing industry in Indonesia so that it can make its products green more quickly, including by using energy sources that are environmentally friendly, renewable, and clean.
“The Ministry of Industry does not only look at clean energy sources, but also looks at the whole products produced by manufactures, which can be green products,” he added.
The “Cut the Tosh Collaboration Summit” is a liaison platform where stakeholders undertaking the sustainability journey can share ideas in the field of sustainability. It also serves as a forum for the exchange of knowledge, thereby becoming a driving force for sustainable development efforts.
Transportation Minister Budi Karya Sumadi earlier called for the use of environmentally friendly vehicles made by the nation’s workers to support sustainable development and better environmental sustainability in the future.
“Electro-mobility can make transportation cleaner and cheaper. This is also in line with the ‘Proudly Made in Indonesia National Movement (BBI).’ Moreover, the main aspect is to produce environmentally friendly vehicle products in the country that (are) competitive with foreign products,” Sumadi noted in a statement.
He praised the electric motor products of PT BYXE Motor Indonesia (BMI), which were unveiled in the lobby of the Ministry of Transportation’s Office, Jakarta, on August 11, 2022.
The electric vehicles comprised BYXE, XADE, SERGAP, and a patrol motorbike prototype.
According to the Transportation Minister, the products raise hopes that they would be mass-produced and used by the public.
In line with the Ministry of Transportation’s campaign to encourage the use of environmentally friendly vehicles, Sumadi was also optimistic about the electric motor—which could be a solution to environmental problems, such as global warming, the effect of greenhouse gases, and carbon emissions—being used soon since it has passed the vehicle testing stage.
“Let us continue to work, to innovate, and to display superior products. We must support this, so that our economy will rise and be better towards realizing a Golden Indonesia in 2045,” Sumadi affirmed.
The electric motor has been developed by the nation’s brightest minds in response to opportunities in the fields of transportation, energy, and technology that are increasingly open and developing in Indonesia.
Electric motor propulsion uses batteries. The components are also being produced domestically or in collaboration with local companies.
