Transportation Minister Budi Karya Sumadi reminded several tourism bus service providers to conduct inspections of vehicles to check their safety before the end of 2021.
“There must be a ramp check and restrictions. That is it from me because the technical aspects are important,” Sumadi noted in Bandung, West Java, on Thursday.
Sumadi remarked that with the year drawing to a close and holidays, such as 2021 Christmas and 2022 New Year, there was a likelihood of travel by vehicles, such as tourist buses, increasing.
He believes several of these tourism buses were past their prime, for which precautionary measures in the form of fleet inspections were crucial to prevent traffic accidents.
Some of the tourist areas frequently visited by the public in West Java are Garut and Puncak, Bogor.
Apart from checking the vehicles, health protocols should also be imposed in a strict manner at these tourist destinations as another form of precautionary measure, especially at the end of the year when travel would be rampant, he emphasized.
“What is considered as strict imposition of health protocols, such as wearing masks, keeping distance, and washing hands, should all be followed,” the minister affirmed.
West Java Governor Ridwan Kamil ensured that his administration had banned various activities that might cause crowding of people at the end of the year.
Kamil also banned civil servants from traveling, unless it was urgent or necessary.
“With such anticipatory measures, God willing, according to the theory, West Java(‘s COVID-19 condition) will be kept under control. Although the coordinating minister said that in practice, the theory is often different from reality,” the governor added.
