Regional governments have a key role in the optimization of vocational education and training for creating excellent and competitive generations, Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture, Muhadjir Effendy, has said.
He noted that this is in line with Presidential Regulation (Perpres) Number 68 of 2022 on the revitalization of vocational education and training.
“In the Perpres, it is mentioned that the realization of vocational education and training’s revitalization needs the role and synergy of all stakeholders, including regional governments,” he said in a statement issued here on Thursday.
Vocational education is a type of secondary education that prepares students to work and run businesses in certain fields, as well as a type of higher education that prepares students to work and become entrepreneurs with certain applied skills, he explained.
Meanwhile, vocational training covers all activities to impart, obtain, increase, and develop work competencies at the level of skills and expertise that are adjusted to job levels and qualifications for work and becoming entrepreneurs, he added.
Effendy said that regional governments could formulate strategic plans for vocational education and training in their respective regions that refer to the policies of the relevant ministries.
He said that regional governments could also adjust vocational education and training with the world of business, world of industry, and world of work.
Effendy also expressed his appreciation for industries that have collaborated with educational institutions to improve the abilities and skills of students.
According to him, the role of the partnership between industries and educational institutions is getting more evident across Indonesia through training programs for improving abilities and skills.
He expressed hope that through the training and internship programs and others, students will be able to gain experiences that are close to the actual situation in industries.
“Thus, when those students actually enter the world of work, they will not require a long time to adapt,” he said.
