Minister to invite G20 AWG delegates for joint commitment

Agriculture Minister Syahrul Yasin Limpo will invite G20 Agriculture Working Group (G20 AWG) delegates to jointly commit to ensure balance of national food supplies during the G20 Agriculture Deputies Meeting (ADM), Yogyakarta, on July 27-29.

“We have agreed to raise the theme on the balance of production and trade for (meeting) the food needs of all people,” Limpo noted in a press statement released in Jakarta on Tuesday.

The Agriculture Ministry will organize the second session of the G20 ADM, which is part of a series of AWG meetings. The peak of the AWG meetings, which will be held in Bali on September 6-8, 2022, will bring together agriculture ministers from across the world.

Akin to the first session of G20 ADM held in late March of 2022, the second session of such meeting is expected to boost the commitment to food resilience in countries all over the world.

Limpo expressed optimism that the G20 AWG will agree on a joint commitment to the balance of national food supplies from domestic agricultural production sources, smooth food trade, and trans-national agriculture to ensure sufficient food supplies for all humans.

Meanwhile, Secretary General of the Agriculture Ministry Kasdi Subagyono, who will chair the second session of the G20 ADM, said the session will kick off with the progress report on the realization of a series of activities conducted by the AWG.

The delegates will later discuss AWG concrete deliverables and main activities of the G20 ADM, including discussion of the draft communique/declaration from agriculture ministers.

Subagyono, who is concurrently chief of the Indonesian delegation to the second session of the G20 ADM, emphasized that the session should be able to yield a commitment to encouraging the implementation of priority issues of the G20 AWG.

“I hope the meeting would be able to contribute concretely to post-pandemic economic recovery and food and agriculture resilience system at a global level.
