Ministry completes communication infrastructure design for Nusantara

The Ministry of Communication and Informatics has completed the communication infrastructure design for the State Capital (IKN) Nusantara that will adopt a smart city management system.

“The Ministry of Communication and Informatics has completed the design of the telecommunications network infrastructure in IKN based on the National Development Planning Agency’s (Bappenas’) master plan. The IKN network is oriented for ‘5G and beyond,'” the ministry’s spokesperson, Dedy Permadi, told ANTARA here on Monday.

According to Permadi, overall implementation of the smart city system is the responsibility of the Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing and Bappenas.

Meanwhile, the Communication and Informatics Ministry is involved in the preparation of telecommunication infrastructure that can support the city governance system in IKN.

IKN Law No. 3 of 2022 stipulates that development of the Nusantara State Capital is expected to be completed in three stages.

With the development scheme divided into three stages, the ministry should be able to ensure that telecommunications networks in IKN run optimally for implementation of the smart city with the support of 5G connections.

“The Ministry of Communication and Informatics along with relevant stakeholders had been preparing a complete plan for the implementation of 5G networks in IKN,” Permadi remarked.

Moreover, the ministry’s plan includes ensuring the backbone network capacity and last mile that is commonly used by society.

5G networks are believed to have more advantages, especially in terms of data integration, as they are faster than 4G, he stated.

Furthermore, President Joko Widodo has revealed that the Nusantara State Capital project will cost up to around US$34.9 billion, or Rp501 trillion.

Some 19 percent of that amount will be funded by the state budget with the name of the budget post “regional development to reduce inequality and guarantee equalization,” while the rest of it will come from other legitimate sources in accordance with the provisions of the laws and regulations.
