The Ministry of Foreign Affairs held a meeting to assess the situation between Israel and Hezbollah in Lebanon, reiterating that there is an evacuation plan ready, revealing that 5 Thai workers are preparing to return, advising the public to make a decision before the airspace is closed.
Mr. Nikorndej Plangoon, Director-General of the Department of Information and Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, gave a press conference on the situation in the Middle East, especially the fighting between Israel and Hezbollah in Lebanon and neighboring countries, which has become increasingly violent and is likely to escalate in the near future. He said that today (October 6), the Ministry of Foreign Affairs held a meeting to assess the situation and confirmed that the Ministry and the Royal Thai Embassy in Riyadh, which is the contact point with Lebanon, have been closely monitoring the situation and have been in contact with the Thai community in Lebanon all along. In the past, the Department of Consular Af
fairs and the Royal Thai Embassy have continuously issued warnings to Thais. The Royal Thai Embassy has inquired about their intentions to evacuate, as well as provided advice and assistance to those who wish to return to Thailand on a case-by-case basis. It has also supported Thai families in high-risk areas to relocate from high-risk areas to safe areas in Lebanon. Most of them are already in Beirut, and one Thai person and his family have already returned to Thailand. The Royal Thai Embassy is also coordinating with their employers to assist five more Thai massage parlor employees who wish to return to Thailand.
The spokesman of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs also revealed that there are about 100 Thais, many of whom have families and are settled in Lebanon, but have lost contact with their relatives in Thailand. Therefore, they wish to stay in the area to wait and see the situation first. The Royal Thai Embassy in Riyadh has been closely monitoring and assessing the situation and has been in contact wit
h all Thais, together with the Honorary Consul in Lebanon, to inform them of the development of the situation at all times. Therefore, it can be confirmed that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Royal Thai Embassy have contingency plans for various situations, including an evacuation plan for Thais in Lebanon.
The spokesman of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs also advised that the situation is still tense and may escalate. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs recommends that Thais in high-risk areas consider leaving the area while the situation is still favorable. There are still flights and airspace open. For those who plan to travel into countries or areas with conflicts, especially northern Israel and Lebanon, please try to avoid them unless there is an urgent need at this time.
