Ministry of Foreign Affairs reveals it has not yet decided to use the electronic system for foreigners to register for entry into the country.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs revealed that it has not yet decided to use the electronic system for foreigners to register for entry into the country. It is waiting to coordinate with relevant agencies to see the appropriate format.

Mr. Nikorndej Plangoon, Director-General of the Department of Information and Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, mentioned the report that Thailand will start the process of using Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) or the registration system for foreign tourists to register their entry electronically in December 2024. In principle, such an electronic system will be in place to facilitate immigration procedures so that travelers can provide necessary information before traveling via the electronic system and to facilitate the entry process upon arrival. This will promote the government’s actions to facilitate the entry of foreigners into the country and is in line with the visa exemption measures and the issuance of Visa-on-Arrival for various countries and territories. The procedures related to visas will continue to be enforced.

The Department of Consular Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, is currently coordinating and discussing with relevant agencies to develop a suitable system, including setting a clear date for the system to start. Therefore, the media and interested persons are requested to follow news from relevant government agencies, especially the Ministry and the Immigration Bureau.
