Ministry of Interior Urges Citizens to Delay Returning Home Amid Border Tensions

Bangkok: The Ministry of Interior has issued a warning to citizens, urging them to delay returning to their residences until security forces provide confirmation of safety. This directive is part of an urgent call to adhere to the “Protect the Back Area” policy.

According to Thai News Agency, the Ministry of Interior sent an urgent letter, dated July 24, 2025, numbered MoI 0231/W, to the governors of the seven Cambodian border provinces. The letter, from the Director of the Thai-Cambodian Border Situation Administration Center, highlights the ongoing incidents of gunfire along the Thai-Cambodian border post-midnight on July 28, 2025. It was during the 22nd/2025 meeting of the Thai-Cambodian Border Situation Administration Center (CBSA) on July 29, 2025, that the resolution was passed to inform border governors to ensure displaced individuals in temporary shelters delay their return until security clearance is provided.

The letter also tasks the Governors of the Cambodian border provinces, acting as Directors of the Thai-Cambodian Border Command Center, with the responsibility of continually providing care to those in temporary shelters. They are instructed to follow the highest standards of “Protecting the Back Area” practices to ensure the safety and security of the affected populations.
