Ministry, stakeholders to train public in digital literacy

Communication and Informatics Ministry, along with Nahdlatul Ulama University and Digital Pandu West Nusa Tenggara, collaborated to host digital literacy training for the community.

“We encourage students to assist the community, so that they can develop the potential of their villages through the use of digital technology,” Head of the Education Sector Digital Literacy Team at the Communications and Informatics Ministry Bambang Tri Santoso remarked in a written statement here on Monday.

Santoso deemed it crucial to provide an understanding to the community on ways to utilize digital devices amid rampant developments in digital transformation.

For instance, using the internet in a positive, creative, and productive manner, so that it beneficial in life. The internet also has its pros and cons, for which it should be used wisely.

The digital literacy training event was held in several villages in West Lombok District, Mataram City, and Central Lombok District. The activity, which brought up the theme of “Community Empowerment through Village-Based Digitalization in Building an Excellent West Nusa Tenggara Civilization,” was part of Nahdlatul Ulama University’s digital literacy student community service program series that would last until August 31, 2022.

Head of the West Lombok Communication and Informatics Office, Ahad Legiarto, urged the community to explore natural and human resources in his village.

“The younger generation can (elevate the) image of the village potential, by (promoting) it, so that there (are unique selling points) for our village. Students are also encouraged to help the community in exploring the existing potential,” he affirmed.

Supervisor to the university’s student community service program, M. Yakub, affirmed that several residents in West Nusa Tenggara relied on the MSME sector for their livelihood, so they must be encouraged to capitalize on technology by being edified about ways to conduct transactions through digital platforms.

Additionally, it was necessary to provide training to the community in relation to optimizing the use of social media to improve tourism in the village.
