Ministry to evaluate regulations for social assistance distribution

Social Affairs Minister Tri Rismaharimi affirmed that her side will evaluate the regulation for social assistance distribution.

In addition, her ministry reviewed regulations regarding permits for the collection of money and goods (PUB) carried out by several institutions. Earlier, the Social Affairs Ministry had only coordinated with related institutions during the distribution of social assistance.

“We will re-assess the collection and distribution of social assistance,” she noted in Jakarta, Thursday.

Earlier, after distributing social assistance to the community through the state-owned banks (Himbara), her side was unaware of the progress in distribution prior to complaints being lodged by the public.

“We cannot see the progress in the next distribution, whether the assistance has been disbursed or not. We will evaluate our cooperation agreement with related banks,” she remarked.

Evaluation of the distribution of social assistance will be discussed in further detail, with the target being August end of 2022, she stated.

“Because this supervision is urgent, I also need it. All this time, I have also been worried about the distribution. Soon we will be able to monitor the whole process with a new regulation,” she remarked.

She said the team that will help oversee the distribution of social assistance will also review the PUB regulations.

The study team involved members from several institutions, such as the Attorney General’s Office, the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK), the National Police’s Criminal Investigation Agency, the Financial and Development Supervisory Agency (BPKP), Financial Transaction Reports and Analysis Center (PPATK), and the Ministry of Law and Human Rights.

Rismaharini said after discussing the permit for the implementation of PUB and the distribution of social assistance at the end of August, she would sign two Social Ministerial Regulations regarding these two issues.

On the same occasion, the Deputy Attorney General for Civil and State Administration Affairs at the Indonesian Attorney General’s Office, Feri Wibisono, supported improvements to the existing mechanisms.

“We will support the Ministry of Social Affairs’ efforts to make improvements and refinements to existing mechanisms, including regulations, systems, and a joint task force team to support the management of social assistance distribution to avoid fraud,” he remarked.
