MK Judge presses for youth involvement amid social, legal changes

Jakarta (ANTARA) – Constitutional Court (MK) Judge Wahiduddin Adams has encouraged the youth to become pioneers and play a strategic part amid the current social and legal changes.

The changes in the legal and social realms are dynamically fast due to technological developments that not only necessitate a response but also participation of the younger generation, he noted during a webinar titled “Millennial Students Contribution in Supporting the Constitution” on Friday.

According to Adams, one of the ways that the youth, specifically students, can uphold the Constitution as well as other regulations is by gaining knowledge and comprehensive understanding of them.

Moreover, students and the other youngsters can actively partake in discussions on the viewpoints and developments of a regulation and law that are currently being formulated, he noted.

He highlighted that criticism to laws and regulations deemed inconducive to the spirit of the Constitution should be expressed through proper channels that have been set.

“There is a way to do it. Do not just protest or make inappropriate remarks,” Adams asserted.

In addition, he remarked that Indonesia’s Constitution is inseparable from the country’s founding ideology, Pancasila, since it is a part of the nation’s identity.

To this end, the youth should behave in accordance with Indonesia’s core values and goals, specifically Pancasila, he noted.

Adams also expressed hope that the students and younger generation would not remain silent and become actively involved as the agents of change, with the foundation of intellectual and moral strength that they possess.
