Jakarta (ANTARA) – Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto has sought the younger generation’s participation in developing the automotive industry, especially in the aftermarket and used car market, as modification can develop the domestic industry.
During the 2022 OLX Autos Indonesia Modification & Lifestyle Expo (OLX Autos IMX) event here, Saturday, he also expects the automotive industry, specifically modification and used car sector, to be able to drive added value in this industry.
“Modifiers have a market domestically and internationally. There is a craftsmanship in there, and modifiers are experts that have their own skills in the form of hand skill and technology,” he remarked.
The government participates in supporting the automotive industry, specifically in vehicle modification. For instance, the Transportation Ministry has already created related programs that can be accountable, he remarked.
Meanwhile, the aftermarket industry has recorded a rise in sales within the last two years of the pandemic, Hartarto highlighted.
For used cars, an increase of eight percent was clocked as compared to the earlier years, he pointed out.
According to the minister, several factors influence this phenomenon that includes a shift in lifestyle since the people are now capable of buying used cars quickly and inexpensively.
In the past, purchasing used cars had to be done by directly going to a showroom, but now, it can be done at home, he explained.
“They (business actors that transition to digital) can change challenges into opportunities,” he remarked.
The 2022 OLX Autos IMX is officially held at the Jakarta Convention Center on October 1 and October 2.
The modification industry and aftermarket products event that showcases hundreds of works from Indonesian citizens was initiated by the National Modificator & Aftermarket Association (NMAA), with the important vision of driving the modification industry in Indonesia.
