Mother and Daughter Found Safe in Sukhumvit Condo After False Alarm

BANGKOK: A 7-year-old girl reportedly missing from a Sukhumvit school was found safe and sound with her mother in a Bangkok condominium, putting an end to a brief but intense police search.

According to Thai News Agency, the incident began when a Facebook user posted that his daughter had disappeared from a school in Sukhumvit Soi 31, prompting an online outcry. The mother subsequently deleted the post due to negative comments but continued to provide information to media outlets. However, the situation changed dramatically when police discovered the child was not missing at all.

The Metropolitan Police Online Patrol Unit, under the direction of Pol. Maj. Gen. Thiradej Thamsuthee, initiated an urgent investigation to locate the supposed missing child. Despite efforts by the Metropolitan Police Investigation Unit and the Thong Lor Police Station Investigation Unit to contact the mother, their attempts were initially unsuccessful. Moreover, no official missing child report had been filed, leaving authorities
with minimal information on the case.

Undeterred, investigators focused their efforts on identifying the mother’s residence, which led them to a condominium on Ratchadaphisek Road. After gaining access to the building, police negotiated with the mother for about an hour before entering the room where they found both her and her daughter. The child appeared safe and was interacting cheerfully with the police.

The mother and daughter were subsequently taken to Thonglor Police Station for further questioning to clarify the circumstances surrounding the incident.
