Bangkok: The National Police Chief has endorsed a drug suppression strategy that aligns with former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra’s recent speech. Pol. Gen. Kittiratt Panpetch emphasized collaboration between police forces and administrative sectors, likening their cooperation to the inseparable nature of fried dough sticks.
According to Thai News Agency, Pol. Gen. Kittiratt outlined the drug suppression policy following a meeting with Prime Minister Ms. Paethongtarn Shinawatra. The focus is on eradicating drugs at the community level, with police and the Ministry of Interior working closely. Since April-May 2024, when he was acting national police chief, a detailed inspection process was initiated, leading to multiple crackdowns and numerous arrests.
Furthermore, the police have collaborated with the Narcotics Control Board (ONCB) and other administrative bodies to ensure drug-free communities. The suppression strategy includes border control measures under the Prime Minister’s Seal Stop Safe policy, which aims to intercept drug smuggling by land, water, air, and parcels. The strategy also involves identifying and monitoring drug storage areas to disrupt supply chains.
Pol. Gen. Kittirat emphasized the importance of cooperation between police and administrative leaders at all levels to address community issues beyond drugs, ensuring comprehensive public safety and well-being.
