National Police Chief Orders Investigation into ‘Police Boss’ for Alleged Misconduct at The Icon

Bangkok: The national police chief has initiated an inquiry into the actions of a ‘police boss’ who appeared on stage at The Icon, probing whether the conduct constitutes a criminal or disciplinary offense. The investigation aims to clarify the situation, with findings expected to be reported within two days.

According to Thai News Agency, Police General Kittirat Panphet, the national police chief, issued a memorandum on October 24, 2024, addressing concerns over police officers’ involvement with The Icon Group Company Limited. The memorandum, directed to Police Lieutenant General Akkharadej Pimolsri, Assistant Commissioner of the National Police, tasks him with overseeing the investigation conducted by the Commissioner of the Central Investigation Bureau and the Police Regional Office.

The inquiry was prompted by a video clip circulating on social media since October 23, 2014, showing a police officer allegedly promoting The Icon Group Company Limited in a manner that could potentially harm the reputation
of the police force. The national police chief has outlined specific actions to address the situation.

The Consumer Protection Police Division has been instructed to investigate the officer in question and summon him for questioning. Should evidence of criminal activity or involvement with the accused in The Icon Group Company Limited emerge, legal action is to be pursued rigorously. Meanwhile, the Provincial Police are tasked with examining whether the officer’s behavior constitutes a disciplinary infraction, with a report due by October 26, 2024.
