Nationwide Narcotics Suppression Committee Established by ONCB

Bangkok: The Office of the Narcotics Control Board (ONCB) has established a nationwide narcotics suppression committee, chaired by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior. The initiative aims to suppress drug-related offenses across the kingdom, control the spread of drugs, and oversee corresponding operations.

According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Phumtham Wechayachai, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, acting as Prime Minister, presided over the 3rd/2025 meeting of the Narcotics Control Board (ONCB). The meeting focused on the rehabilitation, prevention, suppression, and deterrence of drug issues. It was emphasized that drug problems require integrated and systemic action for successful resolution. The meeting concluded with an agreement to cooperate at all levels, involving the Ministry of Interior, the Royal Thai Police, the Ministry of Public Health, and the Narcotics Control Board (ONCB) as primary agencies, with comprehensive coordination from relevant government bodies.

A committee has been appointed to monitor and suppress drug-related crimes throughout the Kingdom. This special unit will oversee operations in line with orders from the Prime Minister’s Office. The Prime Minister’s directive highlights the urgency of addressing the drug problem, with an operational plan for prevention and suppression, as offenses continue to proliferate, causing public distress. The directive outlines the necessity of supervision and oversight by responsible officials to achieve government policy objectives.

The committee’s composition includes prominent figures such as Pol. Maj. Gen. Surasit Sangkhaphong and Pol. Gen. Roy Ingkhapairoj as advisors, along with various high-ranking officials from the Ministry of Interior, the Royal Thai Police, and the ONCB. The committee is vested with powers to supervise, inspect, and ensure compliance with legal procedures, participate in monitoring drug-related offenses, determine measures against responsible parties, and coordinate with government, private, and civil society sectors.

Additionally, the committee can appoint subcommittees and working groups as needed and is tasked with reporting work results to the Prime Minister regularly. Financial provisions for the committee’s operations will be managed according to existing government regulations, with funds disbursed from the ONCB’s budget.
