Nong Khai is accelerating the reinforcement of sandbags to prevent flooding.

Officials continue to reinforce sandbags to block water in front of ‘Phra That La Nong’ continuously, but still have problems with water leaking through the sandbags and water gushing out of the pipes.

The Mekong River current hit sandbags, causing the water barrier to collapse in front of Phra That La Nong on the Mekong River in Nong Khai Municipality yesterday evening and at 2 a.m. This caused both officials and villagers to come out to fill sandbags and place them to strengthen them throughout the night, continuing until now. They widened the base to 5 rows and placed water-filled barriers to push them up. Meanwhile, the Mekong River is still not stable, rising and falling at around 13 meters 82 centimeters, 1 meter 62 centimeters higher than the low-lying bank. We still have to wait and see if it will reach its highest point today as predicted.

The Nong Khai Chamber of Commerce estimates that both the damaged property and the lost income during the period when businesses were unable to do business are
estimated to cost hundreds of millions of baht.

The high water level on some roads in the city and other communities has caused many affected people to park their cars on higher ground in long lines along the main roads.

The mayor of Nong Khai revealed that in about 2-3 days, the water level will gradually decrease.
