Ncera village: Growing up in Ncera Village, West Nusa Tenggara, Indonesia, Novi Rahmanita witnessed the effects of climate change and economic hardship on farming families. Currently, she is the Treasurer of Sakola Ndai, a women's group dedicated to supporting children from migrant farming families and encouraging women's active participation in community life. According to UN Women, through the WE NEXUS project funded by the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) and implemented by UN Women in collaboration with Wahid Foundation, La Rimpu, and LP2DER, Novi enhanced her leadership skills and confidence. This enabled her to drive positive change in her community. Her personal experiences as the daughter of migrant farmers, who often left to provide a better future, shaped her understanding of the challenges faced by children growing up without daily parental guidance. Novi highlights that climate change has dramatically altered the local environment, with rivers drying up and rice fields becoming unp roductive. Consequently, nearly 70 percent of families in her village resort to migrant farming, leaving children in the care of grandparents or relatives. This prompted Novi to consider the role women could play in addressing these challenges. Through training in leadership and community organizing provided by Wahid Foundation and La Rimpu, Novi realized change could begin with simple actions, such as conversations and listening. Together with other women, she established Sakola Ndai, creating a safe learning environment for children. Despite initial challenges, including low attendance and children preferring digital devices over study, the persistence of the group led to increased participation and engagement. The group's efforts have inspired other women to become more involved in community discussions and initiatives. Women in the village have grown more confident in sharing ideas and working collectively to address local issues. Novi learned that resilience is cultivated through trust, cooperation, an d a commitment to community support. Seeing children grow in confidence and eagerness to learn reaffirms the importance of the group's work. Novi believes resilience involves persistence despite setbacks, emphasizing that progress, even when slow, is preferable to stagnation. Her vision is for every child in the village to feel supported and for every woman to recognize the value of her voice, demonstrating how small actions can culminate in lasting change.
