Fire ravaged Jambu Luwuk Oceano Resort Hotel made of wood with coarse grass roof in Gili Trawangan, North Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara Province on Saturday night.
Chief of the Gili Hotels Association (GHA) Lalu Kusnawan confirmed the fire which broke out at 7:15 p.,m. local time on Saturday
“I have not received information about the cause of the fire. As per the preliminary information the fire originated from the back of the hotel and spread to the front of it,” he said.
The fire forced the evacuation of tourists staying at the hotel to a safer place in order to avoid eventualities.
There was no immediate report of injuries or casualties.
Kusnawan said local residents tried to put out the blaze using the available means since there is no fire truck on Gili Trawangan island,
“I, along with local residents are still trying to prevent the fire from spreading to other buildings,” he said.
The fire not only burned down the hotel building but also forced state-owned electricity firm PLN to stop electrical relay stations in order to secure electricity network near the scene of fire.
