Operation “ZERO DRUG” Targets Illegal Drug-Using Pub in Rangsit: Hundreds Test Positive

Rangsit: The Department of Provincial Administration has launched Operation “ZERO DRUG” following directives from the Minister of Interior to intensify efforts against drug use in entertainment venues. The operation targeted an illegal drug-using pub in the Rangsit area, where drugs were discovered and hundreds of patrons tested positive.

According to Thai News Agency, the operation aligns with the urgent policy of “8 Quick Wins: 3 Free from Suffering, 5 Create Happiness” initiated by Mr. Phumtham Wechayachai, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior. The Department of Provincial Administration, under this directive, executed a proactive raid on drug dens in Rangsit, Pathum Thani.

On August 8, 2025, at 12:45 a.m., Mr. Nirun Phongsitthaworn, Director-General of the Department of Provincial Administration, instructed Mr. Ronarong Thipsiri, Mr. Rueangluck Rueangmeeyang, and Mr. Isra Charoenchasri to spearhead Operation “ZERO DRUG.” The operation involved a special team from the Department of Provincial Administration, 80 members of the Territorial Defense Volunteer Corps, and coordination with local administrative and police forces. The raid was prompted by a public complaint regarding drug use at an entertainment venue on Soi Rangsit-Nakhon Nayok 21, Thanyaburi District.

During the raid, officers found over 380 patrons inside the venue. As authorities took control, chaos erupted with attempts by revelers to dispose of drugs and flee. However, all exits were secured, preventing any escape.

The venue was identified as an unlicensed pub. Among the patrons, seven were under 20 years old, the youngest being 17. The manager had a criminal record for drug possession. Drugs, including ketamine and methamphetamine, were found on the premises. Urine tests confirmed drug use among 173 patrons, who are now subject to legal proceedings and treatment.

Administrative officials arrested the manager, charging him with operating without a license, selling alcohol outside legal hours, serving alcohol to minors, and inciting inappropriate behavior among underage individuals. The venue’s involvement in drug-related activities breaches NCPO orders, leading to recommendations for a five-year closure by the Pathum Thani governor.

Mr. Nirat Phongsitthaworn emphasized the Department’s commitment to supporting the Deputy Prime Minister’s policy to combat drug issues and foster a safe society. He assured collaboration with relevant agencies to regulate entertainment venues and prevent drug trafficking.

The public is encouraged to report illegal activities or issues to local authorities or contact the Ministry of Interior’s Damrongtham Center at hotline 1567 for further action.
