Paethongtarn Awaits Deputy Prime Minister’s Statement on Thai-Cambodian Border Situation

Bangkok: Paethongtarn Shinawatra, the Prime Minister and Minister of Culture, expressed her anticipation for an official statement from Deputy Prime Minister Phumtham Wechayachai regarding the recent border clashes between Thailand and Cambodia. Following a Cabinet meeting, she indicated her hope for an easing of tensions in the region, while deferring further comments to Mr. Phumtham.

According to Thai News Agency, Ms. Paethongtarn refrained from making any detailed remarks on the issue when questioned by reporters. She emphasized that Mr. Phumtham, in his role as acting Prime Minister, would be addressing the media in a forthcoming press conference to discuss the outcomes of the ceasefire negotiations and the current state of affairs at the border.

When pressed on whether she believed the situation would improve, Ms. Paethongtarn affirmed her optimism by nodding and repeating “yes, yes” several times, indicating her hopes for a positive development in the ongoing tensions.
