Paethongtarn Shinawatra Advocates for Thai Soft Power Development

Phitsanulok: “Paethongtarn” has announced her commitment to advancing Thailand’s soft power through strategic discussions with the Board of Investment (BOI) and stakeholders in the entertainment sectors. In her role as Minister of Culture, Paethongtarn emphasized that Thai soft power encompasses more than just entertainment; it represents a significant economic force. She urged the creation of quality content paired with practical knowledge to boost this initiative further.

According to Thai News Agency, Ms. Paethongtarn Shinawatra, who also serves as the Prime Minister, shared her insights on social media after returning to her hometown in Phitsanulok for a meeting with Mr. Narit Therdsteerasakdi, the Secretary-General of the BOI. The meeting included representatives from the film, series, and music industries to explore methods to bolster Thailand’s creative sectors in practical ways.

A key topic of discussion was the introduction of tax incentives and cash rebates for Thai producers. These measures aim to encourage investment in quality production, create employment opportunities, and enhance the skillset of Thai citizens. Paethongtarn highlighted that the Thai film, music, and series industries serve not only as entertainment but also as a vital economic driver and a means of showcasing Thai identity globally.

Paethongtarn stressed the importance of collaboration among Thai media producers to develop content that inspires and educates while reflecting contemporary Thai culture. She underscored the need for the younger generation to connect with Thai identity and Buddhism as a way of life that transcends mere ritual or belief.
