Speaker of the House of Representatives (DPR), Puan Maharani, on Tuesday reiterated the legislature’s commitment to collaborating with the government to realize an effective, efficient, and beneficial state budget.
“Certainly, the DPR RI is ready to coordinate and synergize with the government to ensure the 2023 state budget will be effective, efficient, and beneficial for the people’s welfare,” Maharani said at a press conference held after President Joko Widodo’s (Jokowi’s) address on the draft of the 2023 state budget and its financial notes at the Parliament Complex here on Tuesday.
The parliament has urged the government to anticipate domestic and global economic conditions in 2023 in the state budget, she added.
“Particularly as the deficit (limit) has been set to three percent,” the speaker noted.
She urged President Widodo’s government and succeeding administrations to develop a resilient state budget to ensure its effectiveness, efficiency, and benefit for the people.
Maharani also reiterated the parliament’s commitment to monitoring the state budget’s implementation.
“Per the DPR RI’s oversight function, we will exert our monitoring to ensure urgent programs on the education, agriculture, and other aspects relevant to the people, would be implemented,” she said.
The parliament has also asked government ministries to designate priority targets and enact policies that people would understand and benefit from in the state budget implementation, she added.
“This is one important aspect of the DPR RI while implementing its functions together with the government,” Maharani remarked.
In his address before the DPR earlier on Tuesday, President Widodo expounded that the 2023 state budget envisages state expenditure of Rp3,041.7 trillion, comprising Rp2,230 trillion in central government expenditure and Rp811.7 trillion in transfers to regions.
The government has designed the 2023 state budget to be vigilant, anticipatory, and responsive to the possible dynamics that can potentially cause turmoil, the President noted.
According to Widodo, the 2023 state budget should also be able to allay doubts, generate optimism, and support the achievement of development targets, with high vigilance.
