State-Owned Enterprises Minister Erick Thohir has said that Indonesian citizens have many opportunities to become entrepreneurs.
Minister Thohir noted that in developed countries, the number of entrepreneurs in the population was 10-14 percent. In Singapore, the number of entrepreneurs was around 9 percent of the country’s total population, he added. In Indonesia, that number was only 3.5 percent.
“This means that there is a great opportunity for the Indonesian people to be professionals or entrepreneurs. Creation of job opportunities must be done in collaboration between the central government and private entrepreneurs,” he said, as quoted from his official Instagram account @erickthohir, here on Thursday.
Based upon recent research, as many as 70 percent of young Indonesians wanted to be entrepreneurs. The minister deemed this as an extraordinary opportunity, which was in line with the efforts for Indonesia to become increasingly developed.
He admitted that he was personally delighted by the fact that many young people were interested in becoming entrepreneurs.
Minister Thohir stated that Indonesia would need new entrepreneurs if it wanted the economy to continue to grow in a sustainable manner.
He opined that many entrepreneurs develop because they have the capabilities to seek opportunities and utilize them well.
He pointed out that, currently, many young Indonesians were involved in building start-up companies.
