Pheu Thai Party Acknowledges Amnesty Report, Reaffirms Stance on Section 112

Bangkok: The Pheu Thai Party has formally acknowledged a report by the Special Committee to Study the Guidelines for the Amnesty Act, agreeing with its observations while affirming its stance against amending Section 112 of the Criminal Code. Party leaders emphasized that the report is not an endorsement of amnesty for violations of Section 112, a point that has been misrepresented in public discourse.

According to Thai News Agency, the announcement followed a meeting of Pheu Thai Party MPs at the Parliament building, lasting approximately one hour. Party leaders Mr. Chusak Sirinil, Mr. Noppadol Pattama, and Mr. Prayut Siripanich stated that the meeting resolved to accept the committee’s report and its observations. Mr. Chusak clarified that the report focuses on studying the amnesty approach and does not imply support for granting amnesty to those convicted under Section 112. He further noted that the report was the result of 19 committee meetings, during which no objections were raised regarding its accura
cy. The party plans to hold a vote to formally acknowledge the report.

Mr. Noppadol emphasized that Pheu Thai has no intention or policy to grant amnesty to offenders under Sections 110 and 112, countering claims that the party would push for such measures. He reiterated that the party’s stance remains unchanged and in line with the established legal criteria.

Mr. Prayut added that the committee’s extensive study resulted in a comprehensive 53-page report, divided into two parts: a report to be presented to the House of Representatives and a section containing observations. He reiterated that the coalition parties have the autonomy to vote according to their discretion, which was respected during the meeting.
