Pheu Thai Party Delegates Amnesty Bill Decision to Government Whip Amid Urgent Motions

Bangkok: The Pheu Thai Party has entrusted the government whip with the decision to present the findings from the study on the proposed amnesty bill to the Parliament. This decision comes as the Parliament braces for urgent deliberations on a pyramid scheme case and environmental management issues in its upcoming sessions.

According to Thai News Agency, during a weekly meeting chaired by Mr. Surawong Thienthong, Minister of Tourism and Sports and Secretary-General of the Pheu Thai Party, and Mr. Wisut Chainarun, a party list MP and Chairman of the Pheu Thai Party MPs, the discussions centered on a report from the Special Committee to Study the Guidelines for the Enactment of the Amnesty Act. The report is scheduled for review in the House meeting on October 17. Concerns were raised by MPs regarding the recommendations on amnesty under Section 112 of the Criminal Code. However, the absence of Mr. Chusak Sirinil, Minister to the Prime Minister’s Office and Chairman of the Special Committee, left the party memb
ers without a clear direction on the study’s outcome.

The meeting also directed the government whips to convene on October 16 to finalize their stance on the amnesty bill. This agenda is likely to be postponed due to an urgent motion set for the same day, which calls for the House to examine and amend laws to tackle fraudulent financial schemes, including pyramid schemes. This motion is anticipated to attract extensive debate. Additionally, there is a pending report on integrated waste and environmental management solutions, which was not addressed in the last House session.
