Pheu Thai Party Endorses Chaikasem as Sole Prime Ministerial Candidate

Bangkok: The Pheu Thai Party has officially endorsed Mr. Chaikasem Nitisiri as its sole prime ministerial candidate during a meeting attended by prominent party figures, including former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra and Ms. Paethongtarn Shinawatra. The announcement came following a gathering of Pheu Thai MPs, where the party expressed unanimous support for Mr. Chaikasem.

According to Thai News Agency, the meeting was marked by an atmosphere of unity, with Mr. Chaikasem present to engage with MPs and solidify his role as the party’s prime ministerial candidate. Former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra took the opportunity to thank party members for their steadfast loyalty and encouraged them to remain committed to their duties. He emphasized that the party’s struggle to establish a government is ongoing.

The meeting, which lasted approximately an hour, was part of the Pheu Thai Party’s weekly assembly. Party spokesman Danupon Punnakanta highlighted the importance of the upcoming meetings in the House of Representatives, where urgent legislation will be discussed. He urged MPs to ensure their presence and participation in the critical sessions scheduled for the week.

Mr. Chaikasem’s appearance at the meeting was notable, as he took the time to reconnect with MPs from different regions before addressing the full assembly. The party reiterated its commitment to supporting Mr. Chaikasem, dismissing any speculation about backing alternative candidates. The spokesperson clarified that there was no need for a formal resolution, as the party’s consensus was clear.

During the meeting, discussions also touched upon interactions with the Prachachon Party. Pheu Thai Party Secretary-General Nansornwong Thienthong recounted the positive atmosphere during a recent meeting with Prachachon leaders, where past grievances were addressed. The party remains hopeful about future collaborations, though decisions ultimately rest with Prachachon.

Additionally, the presence of Mr. Suriya Juangroongruangkit and Mr. Somsak Thepsuthin at the meeting reinforced the party’s solidarity. They assured fellow members of their continued allegiance to Pheu Thai, dispelling any rumors of defection.

As the Pheu Thai Party rallies behind Mr. Chaikasem, the focus remains on navigating the political landscape and striving for governmental formation.
