Pheu Thai Party’s Defense Act Proposal Considered Rumor, Says Deputy Minister


BANGKOK: General Nattapol Nakphanit, Deputy Minister of Defense, expressed no concern over the Pheu Thai Party’s proposal of the Defense Act, emphasizing that it remains a rumor and has not reached a conclusion. He concurs with Deputy Prime Minister and Defense Minister Phumtham Vejjayachai’s statement that the proposal is a personal initiative rather than a formal party resolution.

According to Thai News Agency, General Nattapol has engaged in discussions with the commanders of the various armed forces, asserting his role as a mediator and urging them to consider the ongoing changes. He remains confident that there will be no revolutionary developments in the current era. General Nattapol emphasized the importance of attitude, trust, and confidence in addressing military-related issues, asserting his commitment to the democratic regime with the King as head of state.

In response to questions about political involvement in military appointments, General Nattapol stated that the challenges stem from a lack o
f confidence among some individuals or groups. However, he reassured the public of his commitment to maintaining stability and expressed confidence that there would be no significant changes during his tenure.

Addressing public scrutiny of the military amid various situations, including the MOU 44 case, General Nattapol urged understanding of the military’s responsibilities. He acknowledged the involvement of multiple government agencies, with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs playing a direct role. Despite the complexities, he maintained a neutral stance and reiterated his lack of concern regarding the current situation.
