Bangkok: The Pheu Thai Party has announced progress in addressing drug-related issues in the country, emphasizing that their goal is not merely to increase arrest numbers but to implement key performance indicators (KPIs) that reflect genuine progress. Ms. Chayapa Sindhuphrai, deputy spokesperson for the party, shared insights into the ongoing efforts led by the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior, Mr. Phumtham Wechayachai, to tackle drug problems effectively and systematically.
According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Wechayachai has ordered the integration of various agencies to combat the drug menace. Recent operations have resulted in the capture of a substantial shipment of crystal methamphetamine, also known as ice, amounting to over 2,100 kilograms across Chiang Mai, Narathiwat, and Loei provinces. Additionally, over 2 million methamphetamine pills were seized in Phrae province. These actions are part of the government’s “No Drug, No Dealers” initiative and the “8 Quick Wins, 3 Free from Suff
ering, 5 Create Happiness” policy.
Ms. Chayapa highlighted that the government’s approach is not limited to arresting high-profile drug dealers. Rehabilitation programs are being implemented in several provinces, aiming to help tens of thousands of drug users. These efforts build on successful models from Thawatchaburi and Tha Wang Pha, which have been in place since the administrations of Settha Thavisin and Paethongtarn Shinawatra.
The Pheu Thai Party is confident that they can resolve the longstanding drug problem, which resurfaced after the Thai Rak Thai government’s term, with their Minister of the Interior leading the charge. The government and officials are working comprehensively to eliminate the issues affecting citizens, focusing not just on arrests but on improving the well-being of the population.
While recent arrests and drug seizures have reached unprecedented levels, the Pheu Thai Party asserts that these are not the sole indicators of their success. The ultimate KPI they seek is the improve
d quality of life for citizens, marked by the smiles of families and the liberation of individuals from drug dependency. The party remains committed to its mission and will continue its efforts to ensure the nation’s communities are free from the scourge of drugs.
