Phumtham Addresses Disagreement Among Pheu Thai MPs Over Cabinet List

Bangkok: “Phumtham” sees it as normal that Pheu Thai MPs from the Northeast have different opinions on the Cabinet list.

Mr. Phumtham Vejjayachai, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense, addressed the concerns raised by Pheu Thai Party’s northeastern MPs regarding their dissatisfaction with the recently released cabinet list. He stated that it is not yet confirmed if the list is final, and that it is common for different opinions to arise during the selection process of ministers. The process involves various party sections making adjustments, and it is typical for members to have differing preferences or support. Mr. Phumtham emphasized that such differences are normal and manageable, with the ultimate decision resting on the Prime Minister’s discretion.

According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Phumtham, when asked about the Ruam Thai Sang Chart Party’s (RTSC) involvement in government formation, humorously denied being the one responsible for forming the government. He noted that each party has internal matters that require understanding and resolution.

Regarding the completion of the cabinet reshuffle, Mr. Phumtham indicated that the allocation process should be finalized by early next week. Following this, the process will move towards seeking royal endorsement for the appointments.

When questioned about the strict examination of ministerial qualifications to avoid past issues encountered during former Prime Minister Settha Thavisin’s tenure, Mr. Phumtham assured that the qualifications will be adhered to diligently. The case of Settha, he mentioned, involved the use of discretion and serves as a learning point for the current process.
