Phumtham Confirms Smooth Coordination with Armed Forces Commanders

Bangkok: ‘Phumtham’ confirms that working with the commanders of the armed forces has been smooth. Phumtham declined to answer whether he will remain in the same position or go to a new one, but confirmed that in the past, the coordination between the commanders of the armed forces was smooth. He declined to comment on the two former military officers being compared for their qualifications to be the Defense Minister. He believes that everyone can do it.

According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Phumtham Vejjayachai, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense, said after the Prime Minister’s interview about the cabinet adjustment, particularly concerning the Ministry of Defense, that he might continue in his current role. However, any changes would depend on the Prime Minister, as it remains uncertain what position he will ultimately hold.

Regarding speculations about General Sunai Prapuchanay of the Pheu Thai Party and General Nattapol Nakphanit from the Ruam Thai Sang Chart Party being proposed as potential defense ministers, Mr. Phumtham expressed confidence in the capabilities of military commanders at all levels. He emphasized their preparedness and loyalty, noting that their military upbringing has instilled discipline and awareness in safeguarding the country’s sovereignty. He assured that all personnel in the armed forces are ready to fulfill their duties.

When questioned about the suitability of General Sunai compared to General Nattapol for the Defense Minister role, Mr. Phumtham refrained from making assumptions or comparisons, emphasizing that the decision remains unknown. He expressed faith in the discipline and training of military leaders, asserting that they are equipped to perform their duties effectively. Although individual differences exist, the selection process is still underway.

Mr. Phumtham also stated that as a politician and government party member, his duties are determined by the Prime Minister, who holds the people’s trust. He pledged to carry out any assigned responsibilities to the best of his ability. Reflecting on his tenure, he highlighted his effective collaboration with the armed forces and his commitment to decision-making that considers input from all parties. He emphasized the need for a clear plan and timeline to adapt to global changes, underscoring the importance of realism in achieving objectives.
