Bangkok: “Phumtham” led the candle lighting ceremony to offer blessings on the occasion of His Majesty’s birthday, August 12, 2025. At 8:05 PM, at the main stage of Sanam Luang, Deputy Prime Minister and Acting Prime Minister, Mr. Phumtham Wechayachai, along with his wife, Mrs. Aphinya Wechayachai, presided over the royal tribute offering ceremony and candle-lighting ceremony to offer best wishes on the occasion of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit the Queen Mother’s birthday anniversary on August 12, 2025. The ceremony was attended by the President of the Senate (representing the President of the National Assembly), the President of the Supreme Court and their spouses, the presidents of constitutional organizations and their spouses, the Cabinet and their spouses, the Secretary-General to the Prime Minister, senior civil servants, military, police, civilians, and the public.
According to Thai News Agency, when the Acting Prime Minister and his wife arrived at the ceremony area at Sanam Luang, they went up to the stage. The Acting Prime Minister, the President of the Senate (representative of the President of the National Assembly), and the President of the Supreme Court saluted in front of the portrait of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit the Queen Mother. They then placed a golden and silver wreath on the tray. The Acting Prime Minister saluted and offered incense and candles, lit candles to offer auspicious blessings. The Acting Prime Minister then addressed His Majesty the King and led the offering of auspicious blessings in front of the portrait.
The address emphasized the significance of the occasion and expressed gratitude for His Majesty’s contributions to the nation. It highlighted His Majesty’s various initiatives, such as the Support for the Arts and Crafts Project, the Forest Loves Water Project, and the Small House in the Big Forest Project, which have all contributed to national stability and environmental preservation.
The event also marked “National Mother’s Day” on August 12, a day of great importance for Thai people to express their loyalty to Her Majesty the Queen. On this occasion, the Acting Prime Minister led the attendees in offering auspicious blessings for Her Majesty’s continued prosperity, health, and fame.
The ceremony concluded with the playing of the Royal Anthem, and the Acting Prime Minister received the candle lantern. The attendees sang the Thai Mother’s Song twice, followed by the chant “Long Live the King” three times, bringing the ceremony to a close.
