Bangkok: Pichai, Finance Minister, is still waiting for the United States to consider extending the time frame for discussing Trump’s tariffs as the 90-day deadline on July 8 approaches. He revealed that he has already sent details to the United States Trade Representative (USTR).
According to Thai News Agency, Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Pichai Chunhavajira spoke about the progress of trade and tax negotiations with the United States, stating that while the details are currently being worked out, they have been sent to the USTR and discussed at that level.
Regarding whether Thailand has requested an extension of the original 90-day timeframe, Mr. Pichai explained that the US will likely evaluate whether the offer is appealing. If deemed so, an extension proposal might be made. He emphasized the need to wait as the details were only sent to the US a few days ago.
On the topic of clear negotiation terms that can be communicated to the Thai public, Mr. Pichai noted that no country has been able to disclose such information or has truly completed the negotiations.
