Bangkok: Mr. Pichai Chunhavajira, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, inaugurated the 2024 Economic Journalists Association Charity Rally, ‘Go Green Econmass Rally 2024’, emphasizing the urgency of adopting green initiatives for sustainable future survival. The event, held at PTT Headquarters, was organized by the Economic Journalists Association under the theme of environmental protection and aligned with Thailand’s ambitious targets for carbon neutrality by 2050 and achieving Net Zero by 2065.

According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Pichai shared his long-standing belief in the potential of electric vehicles, reminiscing about his experience driving one nearly 30 years ago. He expressed confidence in the current shift towards green technology, asserting that the increase in global population and the corresponding rise in carbon footprints could lead to accelerated global warming. Mr. Pichai stressed the importance of collective action to mitigate these impacts, highlighting that caring for the enviro
nment is crucial for sustainable survival.

Despite political shifts, such as Donald Trump’s election victory in the US with policies favoring fossil fuels, Mr. Pichai maintained that the green initiative must persevere. He called for continuous efforts and suggested that immediate action could set a positive precedent, particularly if supported by media, government, and private organizations.
