Bangkok: The Pink Line electric train extension witnessed its highest usage since the trial run began, with 12,806 passengers utilizing the service yesterday. This marked a significant milestone on the first day of the THAIFEX Anuga 2025 trade fair.
According to Thai News Agency, the Department of Rail Transport reported a total of 1,576,350 passengers using the rail system yesterday. The Pink Line extension, covering the route from Muang Thong Thani Station to Muang Thong Thani Lake Station, recorded the highest number of users since its free trial service started on May 20, 2025.
Mr. Pichet Kunathammarak, Director-General of the Department of Rail Transport, highlighted that the overall rail system usage included 59,784 passengers on the State Railway of Thailand (SRT) intercity trains and 1,516,566 on electric trains within the Bangkok Metropolitan Region and surrounding areas. Among the electric trains, the BTS Green Line saw the highest number of passengers at 753,432, followed by the Blue Line with 445,934 passengers.
The Pink Line extension, spanning 2.8 kilometers, has been opened for public trial by the Mass Rapid Transit Authority of Thailand (MRTA) and Northern Bangkok Monorail Company Limited (NBM). The service, available for free until June 16, 2025, operates from 6:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. on weekdays and extends until 11:30 p.m. on weekends. The first day of THAIFEX Anuga 2025 at Muang Thong Thani was expected to significantly increase passenger numbers as the event continues until May 31, 2025.
Mr. Pichet also noted that the MRT service provider has increased the frequency of trains from every 10 minutes to every 5 minutes during peak hours from 6:18 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., using a total of three trains to manage the higher demand. The extension’s connectivity to the Challenger building via a skywalk enhances convenience for passengers attending the trade fair.
