Bangkok: The Prime Minister has directed Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, Mr. Pichai Chunhavajira, to elucidate the specifics of ongoing tax negotiations with the United States. Prime Minister and Minister of Culture, Ms. Paethongtarn Shinawatra, addressed the issue of retaliatory tariffs imposed by the US since August 1, which currently stand at a rate of 36% against Thailand.
According to Thai News Agency, Ms. Paethongtarn emphasized that Mr. Pichai is the key figure for any inquiries regarding the details of these negotiations. She highlighted that all talks must be conducted exclusively through governmental channels, and any discussions with US President Donald Trump will be handled by the government.
When questioned about the possibility of Thailand securing a tax reduction, Ms. Paethongtarn expressed her personal belief that there is still hope for a reduction. However, she reiterated that Mr. Pichai would be the appropriate person to provide comprehensive details on the matter.
