PM to Inaugurate Diwali Festival in Bangkok’s Little India to Boost Tourism


Bangkok: The Prime Minister of Thailand is set to inaugurate the “Amazing Thailand Diwali Festival Bangkok 2024” in the Little India area of Phra Nakhon District, aiming to enhance tourism and strengthen ties with India. The festival, scheduled to begin at 5:30 p.m. at the Ong Ang Canal, marks its third consecutive year of celebrating the festival of lights in the Thai capital.

According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Jirayu Huangsap, the spokesman for the Prime Minister’s Office, highlighted the significance of the event in promoting cultural tourism and improving diplomatic and trade relations between Thailand and India. The Bangkok government has been developing Pahurat Road and the Ong Ang Canal area into a “Little India” cultural tourism landmark, marking the first of its kind in Thailand.

The festival will feature a range of activities, including cultural performances from India and a Bollywood-style light and sound show. Visitors are invited to experience culinary offerings from renowned Maharaja-style Ind
ian restaurants in Thailand. Additionally, attendees can partake in traditional practices by paying homage to deities such as Lord Ganesha and Lakshmi, believed to bring fortune and success. The event will also offer shopping opportunities for Indian-style products, including fabrics, sarees, accessories, and decorative items, showcasing the rich art and culture of India.
